Being an organization without a strict agenda,
projects carried out by PLUG entirely depends on the requests of our members. Feel free to speak up,
suggest (more) things to do, or drop by while we're doing them.
PLUG utilizes only existing resources, machines that CHS has laying around. Books, manuals and other
tidbits are donated by the members and the projects are carried out during our free time. This seems to
fit rather well with the fact of most everything associated with Linux and Perl being free (or very close
to free). We're in the process of selecting a designated scribe/secretary to record the procedures so
that this page will be of use to future members (or anyone interested in these topics for that matter).
If you're confused, overwhelmed or threatened by the size and complexity of the projects here,
drop by and have some fun, listen to some music and learn a few things.

summary
project Plant the Penguin
In a nutshell, Plant The Penguin hopes to migrate CHS
entirely to Linux, eliminating the need for costly requirements such as Windows NT licenses, lofty hardware and
the occasional downtime. With CHS in place, the procedure could be duplicated within the district or anywhere
else for that matter.
project Linux 3D
This project aims to unleash Linux's potential as
a platform for the development of 3D applications and projects. By utilizing existing tools and well-documented
procedures, home users of Linux can have the ability to produce work comparable to professional studios for
high-quality presentations.
Perl Linux User Group Information Network
A good library is nothing without books. PLUGIN aims
to keep existing members informed on the progress of PLUG's projects and activities, as well as providing
new members with enough information for them to keep up with the group. PLUGIN currently consists of a single newsletter.
In the near future, a mailing list will be put in place to allow easy communication between members.
Linux To-Dos
The first step for any non-Linux user to start
using it is actually getting the operating system and installing it without enduring unspeakable pains. We'll
then be moving to the essentials, such as getting your sound card to work (gotta have music, mindless arcade
games with obnoxious noises, right ?), pppd or Point-To-Point Daemon for Internet connectivity and choosing
different window managers to change the look, feel and functionality of your desktop. Then, if you decide
Linux is not your strong hand, we'll try and get NFS working as well as various tips to get you back inside
the safe haven of whatever operating system you were running before.
Perl To-Dos
Perl is good, Perl is great. In this short To-Do,
we hope to cover Perl basics : history, functionality, things you shouldn't do and where to turn when
your computer goes down the drain (hopefully, it will never be that bad when you're using Perl). And then,
we'll awe people with Perl's Common Gateway Interface, which makes those nifty web counters tick.
