Welcome to the Perl and Linux User Group home. This primer has been written to give you a quick overview of what PLUG is (and is not). More details about who each of us is, what our current projects are and other information is provided in the navigation bar at the top of this page. If you experience any problems or have questions that are not answered on the site, feel free to bug the webmaster.
What PLUG is
PLUG was created by a group of students and
staff at Olympia's Capital High School (CHS) to promote the
study of the Linux computer operating system and the
PERL scripting language. Membership is voluntary and free of charge. All that is required of a person
to join is the desire to learn, time and cooperation with others within the group.
What PLUG isn't
PLUG is not an elitist organization. Previous
experience is appreciated, but not required. (Technically) there are no dumb questions. It is not
a place to show off one's enormous ego or harass others. It is not a formal-shirt-'n'-tie-make-a-speech
kind of club. We try to learn something and have some fun doing it. What that something is, only time
will tell (hopefully it'll be a good thing and Linux and/or perl related).
Why you should join PLUG
If you live in Olympia, WA and are currently
attending CHS; one of the reasons to join is that there isn't very many Linux User Groups in the area.
As for Perl,PLUG seems to be the first attempt at creating a unified user group in the history of CHS.
We're hoping to expand our range to include other schools as well. It's an opportunity to be with others who
have the same interests as you, learn new skills and discover life's little mysteries.
Why you shouldn't join PLUG
We provide help to people, but don't expect PLUG
to do everything for you. After all, it's a user group, not a place to exploit other people.Oh, and don't
take our food either.
How to join PLUG
We're in the process of handing out fliers and
have a recruitment operation. In the mean time, drop by the CHS main computer lab for more gory details.
